MOODY JUDY'S MOM Groove Tube

An exquisite labor of love and experimentation, this Groove Tube is adorned with 40 handmade mood rings that shift color as the lamp warms up. Each ring was made using thermochromic paint applied in delicate layers, sealed beneath a glass cabochon, wrapped in a hand-sculpted setting and finished with silver paint. The result is a true artifact of novelty. Paired with magenta wax and a clear jelly fluid. 

Please note: The mood rings are made with thermochromic pigments that can be damaged by prolonged direct sunlight. To preserve their color-changing magic keep this lamp nestled in a spot away from strong UV exposure.

I call these handmade lighting sculptures Groove Tubes and I cast each one from an original hand-sculpted form right in my kitchen. I work with repurposed lava lamp globes, altering their contents to bring a slower tempo and rhythmic energy to a space. Each lamp’s cord is wrapped in textiles sourced from sustainable recycling programs across NYC.

Groove Tubes have a solid, weighty feel because personally I like it when things are really heavy.

Each Groove Tube is handmade in my NYC studio. Subtle variations and imperfections are an intentional part of the process and little reminders that your piece was shaped by human hands and not mass-produced in a factory.
